Reece's Rainbow

It's that time of year again; when the charity solicitations begin showing up in droves in the mailbox. There are so many places to donate where it will make a real difference that it can be hard to choose, and if my pocketbook allowed I would give to many. Since I must set limits, Reece's Rainbow is one of my choices.
As the parent of a mentally impaired child, the work that they are doing is near to my heart. Children with Down Syndrome who are born in other countries, and especially in eastern Europe, are usually institutionalized if they are not adopted by the age of 4.  Reece's Rainbow raises funds to help those children get adopted, so they do not have to spend their lives languishing unloved in an institution. Every child deserves a home, a family and love, and special needs children are the least likely to get those things.  As the bible says, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…defend the rights of the afflicted and needy." (Proverbs 31:8,9) No one needs to be spoken up for more than disabled children who can't speak for themselves.

As the holiday season approaches, if you intend to make a donation to a charity, Reese's Rainbow is one worth considering. These are tough economic times, especially in my state, so if you would like to help, but are financially unable, there is another powerful way to make a difference. Become a prayer warrior. Prayer is powerful.

Time for a Fresh Start

Today is national Start! Eating Healthy Day, started by the American Heart Association to get people to take responsibility for their own health and cut down health care costs. It is never too late to make healthy changes, any time is a good time to make a fresh start.

The best gift you can give yourself is to increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables. Add some exercise to your day as well, and you will notice very quickly how much better you feel. A healthy lifestyle creates a healthy body. The medical community can't create health, it only treats disease. The only one who can make you healthy is you, so do yourself a favor and start! today!.

I have been making a fresh start in my personal life. The repair work on my home is finally all finished and everything is completely back to normal. It was a long, stressful few months and I missed enjoying most of the summer and a good deal of the fall. I also went back to school, starting college full time in September.  Originally my plan was to go into something health care related, but I've changed my mind and now I think it will be accounting. Needless to say, I have very limited time between taking care of my large family and getting my schoolwork done. I have missed you, dear readers and blogging friends. I'll try to post here as often as I can.
