A Little Birding

A few weeks ago a robin built its nest on my porchlight, under the awning. It's a safe, cozy spot, however, it is a high traffic area- someone is always coming in or out of the door. I took a peek into the nest and it is FULL of three growing babies. I'm glad to know the disruption of us using the door isn't having a negative effect on these cuties.

While walking this morning I happened upon this family of sandhill cranes. The adults were about 4 feet tall. It felt astonishing to see such large birds in the woods.

This chickadee was singing its heart out and I managed to get a photo during the few seconds it wasn't flitting from branch to branch.

There were lots of chipmunks too, they are so cute.

Love the little sandhill crane babies! I haven't seen any yet this year and have never been close enough to them in the past to get a photo.

I have birdhouses, piles of old tree roots and a small forest with oak trees at least 200 years old behind my house - plenty of places for birds and other critters to live. We once had a hedgehog mother and her young living in the far corner of our terrace. It was interesting, but I was glad when they finally left! I'm glad to see your still here on the blog. I've printed out many things from it as motivational works I read over and over again.
